Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress that works in television, film as well as theatre. The most famous of her roles is Teri Joe, the flamboyant lawyer in her role on the Showtime program Soul Food. The actress is known under her husband's name, Nikki Kodjoe. From the time she was a child, Nikki Kodjoe was an actor with a natural. At an Maryland contest for students in high school, she was awarded the prize for the Best Actress. Her acting diploma was earned at New York University after working for 'The Washington Ballet Company', as well as in theatre. Contractor, born from Mumbai in India and grew up in Nigeria through the age of seven. She had already experienced many different travels and cultures from a young age. After attending boarding school for seven years in London, her family relocated to Toronto Canada where she spent the majority of her childhood and early adulthood. Contractor trained in classical ballet in Toronto. Additionally, she excelled academically. She was a student at an Etobicoke School of the Arts which is a highly specialized public arts high school in which she not only danced but also studied theatre. Contractor began acting at age 16 and was a part of the theater for a decade after spending ten years in dance. When she graduated from high-school and was awarded an all-inclusive tuition grant to the University of Toronto where she was a theatre student with a dual diploma in sociology and psychology. Contractor, who had spent a year in university, went on to audition during an open call for Pericles which was held at the highly acclaimed Stratford Shakespeare Festival, [Ontario Canadain Canada] and was selected for the role. The play was well-received throughout the 92 productions which she was a part of. She won the award in 2002 for the most outstanding production of the Year, as judged by Canadian Critics. Contractor was offered the opportunity to enroll in Stratford's conservatory, where a select eight men and four women are accepted for a 20-week crash course on the classical stage that she gladly accepted. The role was secured for Contractor in the next play as she was offered the character in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
